SCENIC VIEWS
The Frank Melville Memorial
Park was established in 1937 by philantropist Ward Melville in
honor of his father, Frank Melville. It continues to this
day to be "A Private Park for the Public's Enjoyment", and
is one of the area's most popular locations.
The Frank Melville Park Tour covers
various sites at the Frank Melville Memorial Park; including the
stone bridges, the Lower Mill Pond, the Grist Mill and Setauket
Post Office.

The area around the
Setauket Mill Pond was the site of the first English settlement
in the Town of Brookhaven in 1655. Today the Lower Mill
Pond is the major focus of the Frank Melville Memorial Park. Other
features of the Park are two stone bridges, a grist mill, a nature preserve
and several historic buildings. The Park offers a wonderful
natural environment in the heart of the community and provides
a peaceful retreat from the outside world.

The Old Field Road
bridge passes over the Setauket Mill Pond and separates the
Upper Pond from the Lower Pond. The Lower Mill Pond provides
a picturesque setting for the Park and offers a variety of
scenic views throughout the year. During most of the year
the Park is a sea of greenery, while in the autumn
it is a panoply of color and in the winter it is a
wonderland of white.

The Grist
Mill is one of the most popular locations in Frank Melville
Park. The quaint mill is a replica of an earlier mill in
this area. It is located where the Lower Pond empties into
Conscience Bay. There are some excellent views of the Mill
Pond and Conscience Bay in this area.

The Setauket Post Office is
located at the main entrance to Frank Melville Park on Main
Street. It was built in 1941 on the site of the
original post office in the area. The current Post Office
serves as a branch of the main East Setauket Post Office
on Route 25A. The Setauket Post Office is a full service
facility in a small town atmosphere.
